In addition to sharing our top digital transformation and ERP predictions for 2019, it is also helpful to look back at some of the thought leadership that resonated most with the market. These are the top 5 blogs on our web-site, in terms of total traffic so far this year:
Twenty years into my careers as an ERP consultant, I am still intrigued – and concerned – that most consultants are more aligned with software vendors than with clients. This is especially concerning for consultants guiding organizations through their ERP selection processes, but also for those advising on digital transformations. The popularity of this blog shows that there is a definite thirst for technology-agnostic analysis of some of the leading ERP systems. There are some really good ERP system integrators out there, but at the same time, many of them are part of the machine that causes so many failures in the market (see blog #1 below). Too many of them sell their offerings as silver bullets that you can simply outsource to. When deciding on an ERP system integrator, it is very important to understand their weaknesses – which there are plenty of. Read more about Deloitte vs. Capgemini vs. Accenture here.
This was one of my favorite blogs to write upon my departure from Panorama Consulting to form Third Stage Consulting earlier this year. The analysis in this blog (and corresponding detailed report) culls lessons from over 1,000 implementations that my team and I have been involved with over the last 20 years. If I were to recommend one blog and white paper to a CIO about to embark on a digital transformation – this is it. Read more about lessons from over 1,000 implementations here.
This was one of our more disruptive blogs of the year. Despite being published just a few weeks ago, it has already racked up more reads than all but one blog we’ve published. This market overview underscores how the lines between ERP, CRM, HCM systems, and digital transformation are blurring. Niche players have moved upstream, while the big guys have moved downstream. This wasn’t just our most popular blog for the year, but it had over 3x the engagement as the next most popular blog. Apparently, people really like to read about and learn from failure – and this blog does just that. When I write blogs like these, I continue to be fascinated by how so many organizations continue to repeat the mistakes of years past. Hopefully this blog helps some organizations avoid some of the pitfalls that plague so many organizations. Read more about the Lessons from an SAP Failure at Lidl here.
